Odi's astoundingly incomplete notes
New entries | GeneralBanning light bulbs
The EU is planning to ban ordinary light bulbs by 2012. Check list for them to consider:
- Educate people to recycle fluourescent lamps correctly as they contain many poisonous and precious materials
- Invent greater variety of cheap fluourescent lamps, because the spectrum of the standard ones is really poor. Ordinary bulbs produce a spectrum much closer to sunlight.
- Digital camera manufacturers: add a variety of new whitebalance settings for the upcoming variety of fluourescent light.
- Zurich's current Christmass lighting in Bahnhofstrasse will fit quite well with all the other blueish lights. Maybe don't throw them away next year.
- And last but not least: Find alternative techology for Lavalamps
To the best of my knowledge some of them would flicker at 50-60Hz (mains frequence) but some would have a more complicated electronic circuity that work at much greater frequency.
I'm personally very sensitive to the flickering and can often feel uncomfortable at 50Hz devices.
